The Freedoms Foundation Service Club members from different schools had the great opportunity to participate in the  JustServe Volunteer Fair at Granite Bay High School on Saturday, Sept. 10.  This event was a unique opportunity for people in the community to find new ways to volunteer.  JustServe’s event hosted dozens of booths, including, the American Red Cross Blood Drive, Refugee Needs, Days for Girls, and of course, Freedoms Foundation.

In addition to sharing information about our programs, the students also invited fair attendees to write "Thank you" notes to
service men and women.

Part of the event included a food drive, which was headed by Pam Fronk, founder of the Sacramento Freedoms Foundation Chapter, and currently serving as a director.  Several of the local Freedoms Foundation Service Clubs, including Lincoln High and John Adams Academies, participated in the food drive at their schools and contributed what they gathered to the event's food drive.  Pam reported that the drive was a tremendous success delivering over 4 tons of food to local charities.

Emily Mathews, President of the Sacramento Chapter of the Freedoms Foundation, had a profound experience speaking with a military veteran at the event. He told her that he had served our country for 30 years.  While he was deployed in Afghanistan he would keep a pocket constitution on him and bring it out to read when he had down time.   He said it served him as a reminder of why he was serving.   Over the course of his service, his pocket constitution had grown battered and worn.  He then took one of the free pocket constitutions from the Freedoms Foundation booth, saying, it might be time for a new one.

  1. What a great opportunity to learn about service opportunities! We're anxious to see how this event grows from year to year.
